<![CDATA[The Best 'Game of Thrones' Character Never Made It to the Show]]> Venturing through the sprawling world of Westeros, Game of Thrones includes countless characters, each chasing their own goal of power, revenge, or self-preservation. As they clash, plenty of rivalries develop, but the story always has room for more. The fantasy show significantly paired down the cast list compared to the Song of Ice and Fire books it was based on, leaving out several important players. From Lady Stoneheart to the lost Aegon Targaryen, the show cuts several characters who are set up to play crucial roles in George R. R. Martin's books. While all adaptions always have some level of variation for the source material, removing entire characters is a noticeable difference, especially when the show needs them. Of the many fascinating roles that didn't make it into the series, one character deserved the appearance she never got. Arianne Martell could have improved Game of Thrones if she had been given the chance.

<![CDATA[After 'Sweet Home,' Song Kang Is Unrecognizable in Netflix's 'My Demon']]> In My Demon, the latest Korean drama to dominate Netflix, characters hail Song Kang's co-protagonist Jeong Gu-won as S.I.C.K: "sexy, innocent, cold, and kind." He’s also a scumbag, which, for a demon, is just par for the course. Most international viewers know Kang from the smash hit horror series Sweet Home. Dubbed “the son of Netflix” thanks to the streamer hosting his most popular ventures, Song's dramas Sweet Home, Love Alarm, and Nevertheless all made 2021's most-watched Netflix K-Dramas of the year. With all that star power, Song is oddly absent for most of Sweet Home Season 2. My Demon neatly fills that void. Not even halfway through its 16 episode run, the series shot to #2 ranking on Netflix's Top 10 most-watched series. Likewise, not even halfway through its run, My Demon has established itself as the singular K-Drama to watch as 2023 comes to a close.

<![CDATA[Who Is the Man in the Happy Madison Productions Logo?]]> Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions has produced many fan-favorite movies for over two decades. Founded by the SNL alum in 1999, the company's projects feature Sandler in some of his most beloved comedies, where he typically plays a buffoonish character with a heart of gold. Although many of these Sandler movies were hated by critics, from the likes of Grown Ups to Mr. Deeds, the production company has brought to life many feel-good comedies that audiences love. Its name was also inspired by two of the actor's earlier box office hits, Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, in a satisfying nod to two of his quintessential comedies. But the man in the Happy Madison logo, who can be seen after hitting a golf ball into the shattering screen, is of an even more personal origin than you might think.

<![CDATA[Dave Filoni Created David Tennant’s Huyang For a Very Specific Reason]]> Star Wars has a long history of including droids in the story. Though droids rarely get the respect they deserve, they are the backbone of their society, offering technical assistance, translating, and performing any other tasks required of them. These mechanical beings also represent several of the most iconic characters. From the nervous C3PO (Anthony Daniels) to the mischievous war criminal Chopper (Dave Filoni), many droids play an essential role in the franchise. This is the case for Huyang (David Tennant), who joined the Jedi in Ahsoka on an intergalactic adventure. With his unique position as the Jedi's lightsaber architect, Huyang performs an important job even before he becomes Ahsoka's (Rosario Dawson) reliable companion. But the live-action series isn't the first time Huyang shows up. He first appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars during the "Young Jedi" arc of Season 5, helping the younglings to build their first lightsabers. Yet Dave Filoni admits that the lovable droid almost didn't make the cut.

<![CDATA[The Superhero Streaming Show You Forgot About]]> The era of Peak TV and all the companies that tried to get in on the prestige TV bandwagon is now firmly in the past. With that, the deluge of programs (which included hundreds of new programs each year) that emerged during this era are now a bit of a blur. Not every program can be an all-time classic or unforgettable misfire, some just were average programs that never went anywhere especially memorable. So it is with Powers, a 2015 show adapted from a comic series that attempted to put a procedural spin on the concept of a superhero program. Sharlto Copley headlined the project and the program aired on the PlayStation Network.

<![CDATA[The ‘Doctor Who’ Companion That Inspired ‘Outlander’s Best Character]]> Inspiration often emerges from the unlikeliest places. For New York Times bestselling author Diana Gabaldon, the creative revelation responsible for her wildly popular Outlander series struck thanks to something that, from a distance, seems odd, but actually is like the stars themselves had aligned. In a 1966 episode of Doctor Who, Britain's long-running science fiction classic about a time-traveling alien, the Doctor (Patrick Troughton) met Jamie McCrimmon (Frazer Hines), a heroic, kilt-wearing Jacobite Scotsman who survived the Battle of Culloden. If that description rings several recognition bells, that's because it should. Jamie McCrimmon from Doctor Who is almost entirely responsible for Outlander's best character.

<![CDATA['House of the Dragon’s Biggest Blood Feud Isn’t the Targaryens]]> As House of the Dragon Season 2 draws closer, the Targaryen Civil War threatens Westeros. With Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) and Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) each claiming their father's throne, the kingdom is forced to pick sides. But, while the Targaryen conflict destabilizes the kingdom, other families have been enemies for much longer. The Targaryen rift began with Rhaenyra and Alicent's (Olivia Cooke) falling out in House of the Dragon Season 1. The two friends become enemies as Alicent campaigns for her son to get the crown that Rhaenyra expects. Their bitter rivalry passes to their children, who fight each other from a young age. Despite Viserys' (Paddy Considine) attempts to keep peace in his family, their hatred grows. With the Iron Throne in the balance and their tenuous control of dragons, the Targaryen feud escalated into a war in a single generation. While no other families have the power of the Targaryens, others certainly have bad blood, and older grievances impact The House of the Dragon as well. In contrast to the Targaryens' recent division, the longest-lasting feud in Westeros is between the Brackens and the Blackwoods, who have hated each other for so long that no one can agree on what happened. Yet it plays a role in the Dance of the Dragons as well.

<![CDATA[What Happened to the First 'Monk' Reunion Movie?]]> Monk’s opening theme had Randy Newman singing out the lyrics, “It’s a jungle out there! Disorder and confusion everywhere.” The last part describes the outlook on life that germophobic, OCD-grappling Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub) has, as well as what TV audiences experienced after the final season came to a close. After everyone thought they had said goodbye to Mr. Monk, his friends, and the weekly murder mysteries, a reunion was not just teased, but proudly declared to be set and ready to begin filming. Show creator Andy Breckman made the announcement, talking about plans for a two-hour TV movie to bring back the cast into another mystery to figure out the culprit. Although there was a short reunion, and a TV movie is set to premiere this week, Monk fans weren’t quite so sure such an event would occur at all.

The hero of Akira Toriyama's wildly successful and influential Dragon Ball franchise has been the standard for shōnen protagonists ever since the series first debuted. Though Goku was originally introduced as a supernatural young boy, seemingly alone after the death of his adopted grandfather, Goku's family is revealed to be far more extensive than first believed. <![CDATA[Hear Me Out — Oona Chaplin's Talisa Was a Good Addition to 'Game of Thrones']]> In Game of Thrones, Oona Chaplin's character Talisa Stark is a vast improvement over Jeyne Westerling, Robb Stark’s (Richard Madden) wife in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire books. The decision to change the character resulted in both Robb Stark and his wife having more autonomy, since Talisa is a battlefield medic, and Robb selfishly choosing to be with her out of love instead of out of duty-compelled obligation following a tryst. Their romance is one of the better ones on Game of Thrones, developing naturally and making both Robb and Talisa more interesting by bringing out hidden strengths in each character. Talisa being a foreign-born medic instead of a minor lord’s daughter complicates Robb Stark’s decision to violate the terms of his alliance with the Freys in interesting ways, and the additional autonomy Talisa has makes her a unique example of a strong female character compared to the show’s other female leads. As a result of this character change, the Red Wedding becomes even more impactful compared to the books, since Talisa meets a tragic end at the feast, whereas the less developed Jeyne Westerling is absent from the bloody Riverland wedding at the Twins.

It seems like, nowadays, just about everyone is into the genre as it's become more popular than it's been in years. Yellowstone marches on as one of the leading brands built by cowboy-turned-filmmaker Taylor Sheridan, who continues to tell the story of the Dutton family as they fight for their land. But after five seasons on the Paramount Network, there's bound to be a plot hole or two lurking around the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, and there's one from the very first season that fans have noticed after all this time, involving the death of Evelyn Dutton (Gretchen Mol).

<![CDATA['Game of Thrones' Was Right To Leave Out Lady Stoneheart]]> Ten years later, the Red Wedding is still lauded as one of the greatest plot twists in the history of television, cementing the legacy of Game of Thrones in popular culture. In just ten minutes, "The Rains of Castamere" made the show even more infamous than it had already been with its willingness to kill off major characters, to the point where it arguably became the most well known fact about the series as a whole. So just imagine how alienating it would have been to see one of the three major casualties of that event brought back but reduced from a series lead in a small and silent role. Not only would the horrific resurrection of Catelyn Stark as Lady Stoneheart have risked undermining the impact of her death, but it would have created a storyline without an endpoint. Perhaps the most serious mark against it, however, would be the manner in which such a plot twist could have tarnished the goodwill of the casual audience, even if executed correctly.

<![CDATA[‘The Wheel of Time’ Season 2’s Biggest Changes From the Book]]> Prime Video's The Wheel of Time may be based on Robert Jordan's book series of the same name, but the show takes more than a few creative liberties. The expansive universe and many characters make the series difficult to adapt, but the streamer has made a valiant effort. Though the main plot points remain the same, the show adds some additional conflicts and adjusts the timeline of events. Any adaption is bound to have some variations, so it's no surprise that The Wheel of Time deviates from the books, but some of the significant changes may be jarring for readers. Understandably, the show must speed up the plot, as there are fourteen large books to get through if they intend to incorporate all the critical parts of the extensive fantasy series, but that is far from all the changes.

<![CDATA[Sorry DCEU, The CW Gave Us Our Best Flash]]> It's no secret that The Flash movie under-delivered on a massive scale, crashing faster than, well, the Flash. There are many reasons, of course, not the least of which is how the film is clearly in the DCEU, the same DCEU whose fate was decided before the film was even released. One of the more prevailing ones, however, has nothing to do with the character and everything to do with who is playing him: Ezra Miller. Their well-documented recent history has turned people off, but even before that, Miller was never the best choice, with arguably only one truly great (and decidedly funny) DCEU moment, a brief cameo in DC's Peacemaker series. But on TV? Grant Gustin's Barry Allen/Flash in The CW series The Flash is way, way better. Strike that. He's the best.

<![CDATA[‘Naruto’s Best Couple Deserve More Screentime]]> Naruto is better known for its classic shōnen action battles, boasting some of the most memorable and interesting fights and techniques in the genre. In addition to his intriguing world building, one of Masashi Kishimoto's greatest strengths is his ability to create dynamic and memorable characters that are easy to root for as they face challenge after challenge. While most endeavors in the Naruto world deal with life or death situations, it's nonetheless incredibly interesting to watch these characters tackle challenges of a lighter nature, such as dating. Though couples like Sakura and Sasuke or Naruto and Hinata often receive more attention, neither of those pairings are actually the best in the series. It's Shikamaru and Temari who, despite starting off as enemies from different villages, go on to become the best couple in the series. Their slow-burning flirtationship spanned years, but ultimately, the drawn-out tension between the two rival ninja made their relationship significantly more satisfying to watch unfold.

It follows Tanjiro Kamado, an insecure boy who pledges vengeance on demons after his entire family is killed by one. He does this by joining the Demon Slayer Corps, a group of sword-wielding individuals who fight demons as the creatures attack innocent people after sundown. Getting rid of a demon is no easy feat. The anime has incredibly skilled evil spirits who find creative ways of launching deadly attacks to make us desperate – from the traditional body snatching to limb-deteriorating bouncing balls. In the Demon Slayer universe, one of the few ways to kill a demon is by exposing them to sunlight. This is the reason why the swords used by demon slayers go through lengthy sun exposure during their manufacturing. But how are they made, anyway?

Boosting this positive reception are the joint returns of David Tennant and Catherine Tate to their respective roles as the titular Doctor and his companion du jour Donna Noble. In 2020, almost 50,000 fans declared Tennant, who originally played the Doctor's Tenth incarnation, their favorite and the best Doctor in the series' history. Yet, if asked, Tennant will admit he owes his performance to the actor who paved the way for every subsequent version of the Doctor. That man, Patrick Troughton, was only the second performer to assume the part, inheriting the TARDIS in 1966 from William Hartnell. (For those unfamiliar with the name but up on their movie trivia, Troughton played that priest who gets impaled in The Omen and was Harry Melling's grandfather.)

In the time since the show ended, there have been reruns on cable, episodes streaming on Peacock, and discussions about a planned reunion TV movie. Now, the fans can return to spending time with the neurotic detective in Mr. Monk’s Last Case. But with eight seasons and a total of 125 episodes, it might be best to remember what went down before you watch.

<![CDATA[Why Jennifer Garner's ‘Alias’ Is One of My Ultimate Comfort Shows]]> When first I encountered J.J. Abrams’ high-octane espionage/sci-fi thriller Alias, it was not the love at first sight I’d been hoping for. It was 2011, the summer after seventh grade, when I had settled on the series as my next (read: first) big serial commitment. While others my age might’ve been taking the bus to the mall to meet their friends and spend the afternoon roaming around together, I was going to Best Buy to browse their once-beloved A-Z selection of TV on DVD. As a legendary gift card hoarder, money was no object: I’d decided on the complete first season of Alias as my notable purchase for the day.

<![CDATA[Bobby Lytes Spills the Beans on his Cast of House of Villains]]> Bobby Lytes rose to fame appearing on Love & Hip Hop Miami as Trina's cousin. The rapper didn't get along with her assistant, Alvin who tried to attack him on the reunion stage. The rest of his time on the show led to more feuds and altercations. The audience saw a different side to Bobby when he starred on his dating show, Bobby I Love You, Purrr on Zeus in 2022. So it's not surprising that Bobby gained the status of an anti-hero or villain, and his recent stint on House of Villains further solidifies that idea.

As Mary learned what being a Queen would entail, the cost that came with the title and the losses she would face took a toll, turning the innocent Mary we meet in the pilot episode into the hardened woman that is ruling by the series’ end. Alongside Kane starred Megan Follows as the notorious Catherine de' Medici, the Queen Mother of France, whom Mary bonded with over the loss of Francis (Toby Regbo), and, in Season 3 and 4, Rachel Skarsten as the Virgin Queen, Elizabeth I of England, the woman that Mary was pitted against due to their rivaling claims to the throne in England and difference in religion.

<![CDATA[Real Hells Angels Are Riding Along in ‘Sons of Anarchy’]]> Kurt Sutter's biker drama Sons of Anarchy quickly became FX's runaway success. The series ran for seven seasons and followed young Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) who discovers his late father's journals and the truth they hold about his mother Gemma (Katey Sagal) and her new husband Clay (Ron Perlman). Not only did this modern take on Hamlet convert many to motorcycle culture, but it was also praised by many pre-existing hogheads. This was in no small part due to the show's commitment to authenticity. Countless elements of the show are based on real-life biker gangs, and Sutter even brought the real Hells Angels on board to help.

<![CDATA[ ‘RHOP’s’ Candiace Dillard Could Be the Cardi B of Her Franchise if She Exits Early Enough]]> Candiace Dillard has become an essential shade-throwing machine in The Real Housewives of Potomac cast. Her journey on the series has been an interesting one, and as her music career takes off, questions about why she remains on the show persist. On RHOP, She’s been, either directly or inadvertently, at the center of some of the biggest and most physical fights in RHOP history. The fight between Candiace and Monique Samuels, of course, will go down in infamy, as it led to two lawsuits and Monique’s ultimate departure from the series. Candiace’s most recent enemy has been Gizelle Bryant, who made claims that Candiace’s husband, Chris Bassett, cornered her in a room alone during the season 6 reunion special. Gizelle, who is not necessarily known for being honest, alleged that Chris cornered her, something that has, more or less, been proven to be false. Even in the most recent episode, Gizelle has stood by what she said, insisting that Chris forced her into a “bedroom.”

<![CDATA[What Happens in 'The Last of Us Part II'?]]> Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for The Last of Us Season 1 and MAJOR spoilers for The Last of Us Part II.The Last of Us in both its television series and videogame formats tells a bombshell of a story that both long-time players and audiences who hadn't experienced the game weren't prepared for. Joel's (Troy Baker) decision to do what he did and how it impacts Ellie (Ashley Johnson) still has the gravity that it did when the story was originally told in 2013. It can still inspire a level of debate and discourse that few pieces of media can compare to. If you're one of those people who felt rocked by the first part of the story's conclusion and have fallen into the rabbit hole of "Was Joel right?", then you're in luck as there's a sequel. The Last of Us Part II not only directly grapples with the fallout and implications of Joel's decision, but it does so with an increase in moral/emotional complexity that caused a lightning rod of controversy when it came out.

<![CDATA[David Tennant’s Kilgrave Needs to Join the MCU]]> Try and explain the motivations or internal psychology of recent Marvel Cinematic Universe villains. If one engages in this exercise, one will be quickly disappointed to see that many of these foes have no real relevance to the world audiences inhabit. Dar-Benn from The Marvels, for instance, was justifiably mad about what happened to her planet and her response to that trauma was to suck up the sun(?). Kang in Quantumania was so vaguely defined that it was impossible to get a read on the character. Kro in Eternals, meanwhile, was such a throwaway baddie that even MCU diehards likely forgot he existed! Compare such subpar adversaries to Kevin "Kilgrave" Thompson (David Tennant), the villain of the first season of Jessica Jones.

With an HBO television series adaptation now streaming, now is the perfect time to revisit and explain the game’s plot in detail, from the intense prologue to the startling and thought-provoking conclusion. One of the unique qualities of The Last of Us is its ability to tell an intimate and epic story in a way that feels consistently organic and compelling. Although adapting a video game into a TV series has historically been a challenge, especially since changes in adapting the story are inevitable, there’s no doubt that in this case, the showrunners have done an excellent job in adapting the brilliant source material.

Much like Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada (Anne Hathaway), Lauren had to choose whether to go to Paris for a position abroad or give it up to her co-worker. It may already be common news that, for the most part, Lauren Conrad's internship was scripted and dramatized to make it seem like she was working full-time at LA Teen Vogue. Scripted or not, season 2 of The Hills delivered a reality MTV chic "Roman Empire" moment: the moment Lauren got scolded by her boss for choosing her boyfriend over a Paris internship.

But all of that changed when we learned that John Dutton wasn't dying at all; he just had a stomach ulcer that got the better of him. The long-running Fox hit created by Hart Hanson brought to life the Temperance Brennan book series by Kathy Reichs, based on her work as a forensic anthropologist. Reichs' book series was fictionalized, but it was rooted in the realities of her profession. To keep the more technical aspects of the show scientifically sound, Kathy Reichs was brought on as a producer. Bones told transfixing stories of unidentified bodies and bizarre, often grotesque crimes, but the highlight of the show was the will-they-won't-they dynamic between Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz).

<![CDATA[The Cancelled TV Show With the Most Brutal Cliffhanger]]> Every show gets canceled eventually, and it's best when the writers can wrap up the character's endings nicely. Ted Lasso, Succession, The Good Place, The Golden Girls, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show all knew that their time had come and that the show would end with the final season. This gave the writers time to figure out which direction to take the characters and where they wanted them to end up. But what if they don't get the chance? What if they plan the best cliffhanger in history, and the show gets canceled? And we never know what happens. The Netflix show GLOW is one that still hits hard; they were all about to make big decisions, but we never got an outcome. Angel and Legends of Tomorrow also left us with cliffhangers that will never be resolved. Marvel's Agent Carter was one of the tougher ones as well; Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) and Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj) finally get together before Daniel gets shot by an unknown and is left for dead. But the most brutal cliffhanger along the same lines as Agent Carter must be for A&E's The Glades.

<![CDATA[Julia Roberts Is Better in Thrillers Than Rom-Coms]]> Julia Roberts is to rom-coms as pepperoni is to pizza, which is why it's easy to forget that she's actually had just as successful a career within the thriller genre as she's had in romantic comedies. She's been the girl slinging pizza behind the counter in Connecticut in Mystic Pizza, and, of course, she's been the pretty woman in the appropriately titled Pretty Woman. But at the same time, she's also had to fake her own death to get away from an abusive husband in Sleeping With the Enemy and stay one step ahead of being killed seemingly by her own government with The Pelican Brief. Basically, Julia Roberts has done it all, but when it comes to thrillers, there's no stopping her, as evident in Sam Esmail's Netflix thriller Leave the World Behind, which she stars in with Ethan Hawke and Mahershala Ali.

Britney and Kevin Federline’s "home" videos were the backbone for a 2005 reality mini-series titled Britney and Kevin: Chaotic. <![CDATA[‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Should’ve Given This Couple More Screen Time]]> One of the biggest plot twists in Grey’s Anatomy’s run happened early on in the series — in the Season 1 finale to be specific. For the entirety of the season, we followed Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) love story. It’s frowned upon by many given that he’s her boss, but fans loved them and were rooting for them every step of the way. Things were going well for them up until the Season 1 finale, when a major bomb is dropped on Meredith and the audience. Derek is married, and his wife is in town. Oh, and she knows that Meredith has been sleeping with her husband. Addison’s (Kate Walsh) shocking arrival set the stage for Season 2 as she planned to fight for her marriage, and Meredith desperately tried to hang on to Derek. But as the season went on, we learned why Derek and Addison split in the first place; she cheated on him with his best friend Mark (Eric Dane). Working things out was never going to be smooth sailing, especially not when Mark Sloan moved back to Seattle. But one of the most surprising things to come about with the storyline was the steamy chemistry Addison and Mark shared. Cheating is unforgivable, but there was something about Addison and Mark that was so endearing you couldn’t help but want to see them interact. And look, I’m just going to say it… they should’ve gotten more screen time.

<![CDATA[The Best 'Grey's Anatomy' Couple Isn't Meredith and Derek — This Is]]> When it comes to the couples of Grey’s Anatomy, there’s no denying that the most popular and best-known couple is that of Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey). We follow their love story from the pilot episode, all throughout the series, through every up and down, through thick and thin, until death made them part. They’ll forever be one of the most iconic pairings in Grey’s Anatomy, but are they the best couple? Not exactly. There are a few couples in the running for that spot, and it's hard to narrow it down, but at the end of the day the title for best couple has to belong to Lexie (Chyler Leigh) and Mark (Eric Dane). I know, I know, putting another couple above Meredith and Derek probably seems wrong, but the fact of the matter is, Lexie and Mark took what Meredith and Derek had and did it better. Though their time on the show may have been brief and ended in tragedy, the time we shared with them remains special, and they'll forever hold a place in our hearts.
